From Colorado

A Republican county clerk sent an email to the President of Colorado College, telling him to circulate a message which stated that out-of-state students attending Colorado College could not register to vote in Colorado if their parents claimed them as dependants on their taxes. This is a complete fabrication. When confronted about the issue, the Republican clerk backtracked and claimed that he made a mistake, seeing as his actions could not legally hold up. From Virginia

At Virginia Tech, the county registrar sent out a press release filled with completely erroneous information. The registrar flat out lied by claiming that parents could no longer claim their children as dependents on their tax returns if the student registered to vote on campus. Additionally, they told students that they had to change their car registration and drivers license to Virginia and also tried to scare the students by insinuating that they might lose their scholarships if they registered to vote on campus – a blatant lie. From South Carolina

At least two different people who contacted officials in both Greenville County, the location of Furman University, and York County, home to Winthrop University, encountered elections officials who told them that they were ineligible to vote. In fact the official in York County simply stated, "You can't vote here." The county officials in South Carolina knew that they weren't telling the truth. [McClatchy Newspapers, 9/24/08]
